Yes, I think they are the same synth. I don't even think it is a rebrand. Opti and AdMOS must have had some kind of business relationship because "QDSP" appears on the 941. I'm not sure if QDSP is an industry-standard term for a kind of DSP or if it is a brand of DSP.

Nope. Great drivers, improved mixer. Fine SB and WSS support - but not a single tone out of MIDI (unless I hook up an external module, which works fine).

That's really sad. Maybe there is a simple fix. Could we get closeups of the board? I can compare with mine and make sure there aren't any missing parts or anything that looks wrong.

A good excuse to dig out the USB microscope I bought my son - which he of course hasn't even looked at after the first five minutes 😉

Anywhere in particular to focus on? I'd assume the QDSP and the microcontroller legs & their traces for starters. Checked with my bare eyes and didn't see anything untoward. Will take pics tomorrow when I have some more light.

Not that I know of .

Right, been working on the photos. Good news is that the microscope works and does its job admirably. Bad news is that lowest possible magnification is so large that it's not really suitable for high-level scanning. Here's an example. I can zoom in much further if needed:

Image resolution is fixed 640x480 (the microscope cost all of EUR 11 😉 ), but with sufficient optical zoom that's no problem, it just limits field of view. Once we find something interesting I can literally zoom in on it.

Sorry about wonky images, a bit busy at the moment but realised this sound card was fairly close at hand so hope this helps. Manual really doesn't say anything about GM in DOS, but maybe the DOS drivers/utils are different to the ones on your supplied disk - although it seems all of them use SNDINIT.EXE and have similar contents. I'll give the card a try when time permits.
