Nice! But but it would be better with button labels.

Yes, will add that 😀

Wondering if you might consider building the McCake + Pi unit right into the 3.5" bay mounting bracket as a complete assembly, allowing for modular front panels to match different case colors but also solving the problem of standard mounting as it could be sized to utilize standard 3.5" device mounting holes? It might be a whole lot cleaner in terms of layout since the molex power connector would be in the same area as the other floppy/hard disks in the computer, and instead of running the control/OLED header cable plus a power connector to the sound card, you just run a single ribbon cable to the wavetable header. This would alleviate the issue of clearance for the PI+McCake on smaller sound cards (usually the later ESS and Yamaha ISA examples) with oddball wavetable header orientations and avoid consuming an adjacent expansion slot in the computer.

Yeah i will make some base PCB for this, so that McCake pcb can be mounted on it, in a slot.
it would be easy to realize

Are these still on track to be available on serdashop.com soon? Not that I should be buying one so soon after dropping a ton of cash on an Orpheus.

Yes next McCakes expected soon, (approx 2 weeks).

This is probably a very silly question that has been answered already....but I swear I searched!

I am trying to setup my McCake with a PC-MIDI board from Keropi. I have my MT32 roms. Do they just go in the root directory of the microSD card on the McCake? Is there a specific naming convention for the ROM files I should use?

They go into the roms directory. Follow the instructions on the MT32-Pi project page.

If WP32 McCake gets power through the waweblaster header, what's the floppy connection for? Is the floppy power required for full functionality?

Just wondering do I need a molex -> floppy adapter for this, I'm out of floppy power connectors.

Not all sound cards can supply enough current to drive the McCake. If it doesn't work in your machine you need the floppy connector.

Gotcha, thanks!

I'm going to guess Orpheus can push enough power through the waveblaster, but I think I'll get the adapter anyway just to be safe. I'm sure I can use it for something else later on even if I don't need it here. And its not like getting one is going bankrupt me.

You should always use Floppy Connector, even if it works without.

I need your help / feedback :
the current McCake front panel uses the front position floppy drive screwholes
these are well accessible in some cases, such as a 3.5" to 5.25" bracket i used for testing.
But apparently in many real life cases, the front position is not easily accessible or even not accessible.

Could you have a look at your pc and tell me if the front panel could be mounted this way or not ?
I may need to change the design to make it more universal

Dreamblaster,

The front panel looks great, but the screw holes on the 3d printed panel are way short of reaching any of the screw holes on my 3.5" bay. I'm positive I'll be able to work something out. But it isn't a plug n play solution on my machine.

Yes, the small panel worked fine in my 3.5" to 5.25" bracket, but in reality in many cases the front holes are missing or unreachable.
New version will be :
- extended 3.5" panel, with holes for 2nd position (which are always available in cases) - photos coming soon
- the new 5.25" panel design

Here are the new printed prototypes

5.25inch : now it clicks together but disassembling without destroying is not easy.
maybe i go for screws instead of 'clicking'

new Mcake PCB's arrived, and they work great !
Also the latest 3.5" prototype seems allright, i will make more of these in the weekend
5.25inch still needs some redesign, this will take more time

I will start by contacting people on the wait list first, it may take a few weeks before going 'public' with mccake.
PM me if you still wish to be an early bird. I will give priority to vogons reservations first.

I want to go on the list, but my wallet does NOT want me to go on the list. I will wait for the public release to give it a breather

[edit]Actually, that depends. How much will it cost?[/edit]
