all TOSLINK receivers and transmitters I have looked at specify maximum of 96kHz sample rate, my ESI Juli@ which can do 192kHz even says that you can only use its coax input/output for that.
I have no TOSLINK hardware so I have not actually tried to see if it would even work but coax, with the transformers I have listed, do work fine with all sample rates up to 192kHz, and probably beyond since they list 100MHz at their upper end.

That sounds about right. A lot of pro gear doesn't bother going above 48khz anyway.
