Hello,

I'm having a small problem running games from dos.

Well, it's basically as the subject says. I can run windows based games fine, but theres no audio support when I run the games in dos.

In the setup of "Under a killing moon" it tries to autodetect the sound card, but finds nothing.

The card shows in hardware management as SB PCI (WDM).

Is there anything I can do?

Thank you in advance.

Have you actually got a Soundblaster Pro (a 16bit ISA card), or a Soundblaster PCI? They are very different and will need configuring in totally different ways and one will have vastly better DOS support than the other (hint: it's the ISA card).

I'm quite shure it's the PCI card as there is no indication of it being an ISA card.

Hmm... i can't post my autoexec.bat and config.sys since they're on the stationary win98se pc. Theres no internet on there, and no usb drives. (it's old).

But i'm pretty shure the autoexec.bat file is empty.

Unlike most ISA Soundblasters, PCI sound cards won't work in DOS without some form of driver. Even then they're not completely reliable. You will need the DOS drivers installing for whatever model of Soundblaster you have.

On the card itself with be a CT or SB number ... like CT1770 or SB0090... that will give you the exact type of card, and you'll need to track down the correct DOS drivers for it. You could start here: http://vogonsdrivers.com/

The WDM driver offers no legacy support. Go for the VXD driver instead. This should add a legacy sound device. According to DOS games: Beware of the FM emulation of this card. Better chose general midi in supporting games, the software wavetable is good.
