Hello,

I picked up an early version of an SC-55 (ROM 1.10 - GS Logo on front - no general midi), and reset it to factory defaults after I was having some issues. Was curious if there is recommended settings / guidance for each instrument and part for the Level, Pan, Reverb, and Chorus settings as a number of games now sound a bit funky and off.

Thanks in advance!

Default settings is what you want for games. Performing a GS reset will ensure that the device is using those.

Afterwards, you can compare your SC-55 with online recordings such as this one.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Athlon64 3400+ / Asus K8V-MX / 5900XT / Audigy2
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 970 / X-Fi

Thanks! I totally forgot about the GS init - appreciate it!

Just remove the battery: each power on will be defaults 😉

My SC-155 remembers settings even without the battery, unless I disable the "Backup switch" option.

To clarify, this happens when I press the Power button to turn off the SC-155. If I physically remove the power cable from the device, it does reset to defaults, regardless of the Backup switch.

It's basically your preference. With Sierra games for example, I like them having some reverb and chorus, so I play a QuestStudios MIDI file that heightens the level of both prior to gameplay. I keep the module off until the logo comes up, so it doesn't reset it. 😀
