I'm trying to replicate the problem that this creates so that I'll be able to recognize it if it happens unexpectedly. I tried this with my Sound Blaster 2 Pro (CT1600) and both AdLib and sound effects work fine when tested with Duke Nukem.

Does this only affect a subset of the Sound Blaster ISA cards?

On eBay there used to be one guy selling cable adapters with a converter to supply -5v. They were more convenient than the Voltage Blaster because it doesn't take an ISA slot.

The following link has an slightly larger (two of them being PAS16 cards) list of cards which requires -5v: ISA Cards & Devices Requiring -5V

Of all the Sound Blaster lineup only SB 2.0 (CT1350) is affected to the best of my knowledge.

Of Pro Audio Spectrum line the early PAS16 models are affected, the later ones (sometimes named Pro Audio Studio 16) are not.

Roland LAPC-I is definitely affected as I tried it myself with a common ATX PSU.
