I have heard many worse. In fact I think the only difference between your ES689 and the widely liked ES692 is an effects stage. Run that puppy through some reverb and maybe a dash of chorus and it should be up there with the best of the onboard options of the era. IMO!

Admittedly I am comparing it against an SC55 and other external midi modules, so probably not a fair comparison 😂

I'm actually debating maybe putting a dreamblaster in mine, just for fun.
