I have an Audigy 2 ZS that produces popping noises through speakers for about the first 30-60 seconds after booting into Windows XP (32-bit). After roughly 30-60 seconds the popping noises stops and the card performs fine.

I had a synthesizer that would produce distorted audio on initial 30-60 seconds, which turned out to be a bad capacitor issue. I'm wondering if something similar might be affecting the Audigy 2 ZS.

Physical inspection doesn't show any bulging or leaking caps. Though I know that doesn't necessarily mean there isn't an issue with one. There are a lot of electrolytic caps though and I'm wondering if it's worth trying to diagnose. Or if it's some other issue entirely.

I suppose I could always get another ZS 2 card, as it might be less hassle.

Thank you, that thread is very helpful!

I'll try replacing those caps and hopefully that corrects the issue.

Oh man this brings back memories.

I can still hear it and remember the frustration… yeah, there is a fix for it and it worked.

I think I recall it being a driver setting, or a driver patch or update that did it. Sorry, it was nearly 20 years ago now.

May not be the same issue though, I see stef80 found something, good job. Capacitors weren’t my issue way back when.

The fact it only happens briefly after boot is what made me think it might be a cap issue.

Replacing a few caps is easy enough. If that doesn't work, I'll explore other options.

For sure, looks like creative messed up a cap spec.
