Hello everyone.
I've been looking for a VxD sound driver with Legacy support (for playing DOS games under win9x) for the Crystal 4205 AC97 codec build into most Dell laptops (C610, D540 and so on).
The D540 makes for a great retro-laptop due to it's configuration (Mobile Pentium 4 / Radeon 7500C with 32M DDR / swap-able optical drive and floppy disk drive) and it has official windows 98 drivers posted on the DELL website you can still download! These include utilities like Speedstep (useful if your laptop has a good or new battery) and software for media keys.
The only problem is a complete lack of DOS game support from the sound card in Win9x or DOS. I've been looking around for the last few days whenever I had a bit of time for VxD or SB compatible win98 drivers but so far I can only find WDM drivers for this particular crystal codec. I tried UNISOUND in dos but it did not detect the sound card.
Has anyone found a solution for this?
