Recently got a SB16 CT2260 assuming better compatibility with DOS games. Installed the Creative's standard Win driver (sbw9xup.exe) and DOS driver (95dosapp.exe). After some struggle, was able to get sound working on a new Win 98 installation. The problem is with getting DOS games to work. Tried Prince of Persia 1 (v1.0) and was getting FM but no sound effects. In POP2, was getting FM and FX but the sound completely cuts out after a while. For Doom Ultimate, was able to get sound FX but no FM. However, FM and FX work fine with Doom 2. Music and FX work fine with Wolfenstein 3D as well.

Checked the sound card jumpers and it was set for IRQ 5 and DMA 1. The Win 98 SB 16 driver also displays the correct SB settings (IRQ 5, DMA 1, high DMA 5, MIDI 330, port 220). Have also set the SB in autoconfig.exe. The motherboard I am using is M6VLR (Via) with C3 600Mhz and 128MB RAM. Need your help in getting music properly for these games (Doom, POP1). Thanks.

For Prince of Persia, you would need to slow down the computer to get the digitized sound working. I don't know much about the sequel, but in the BIOS setup try increasing "8-bit I/O Recovery Time" to see if it helps.

For The Ultimate DOOM, did you set the music to "Sound Blaster"? If so, try using the DOOM II executable, it works fine with The Ultimate DOOM. Quite weird that you don't get FM synth considering that it is the same game engine.

Hello Gmlb256! For Ultimate Doom, I did select SoundBlaster (as well as the port 220, IRQ 5 and DMA 1) for music and effects. But for some reason, the music doesn't work. I am thinking if it is due to the IRQ 5 which was set.
