Hi,

Is it possible to use CT2980 Sound Blaster 16 in a 8 bit ISA slot? It would be nice if I can use it on my 8088/8086 computer.

Not sure about that model specifically, but I've used 1 of my SB16's in an 8 bit slot and it worked perfectly.
The IDE will not work. Rout the PC Speaker through the sound card while You're at it, sounds a lot better than some crappy case speaker.

I had it working in Lemmings but even at 10mhz the game is slow.

Atari 2600, TI994a, Vic20, c64, ZX Spectrum 128, Amstrad CPC464, Atari 65XE, Commodore Plus/4, Amiga 500
PC's from XT 8088, 486, Pentium MMX, K6, Athlon, P3, P4, 775, to current Ryzen 5600x.

Didn't the SB16 Vibras and some other models use 2x 8-Bit DMA instead of a 16-Bit DMA?
I think this was discussed a while ago, but I didn't fully care because I focused my interest on the early SBs at the time. 🙁

Edit: It might be possible that the 8-Bit PCM playback works in an 8-Bit slot.
But I don't know for sure.

The PAS16 works in 8-Bit mode, or so I heard. Didn't try.

Only the ones that uses the Vibra16XV chip are incapable of using a 16-bit DMA channel, the rest has proper HDMA support.

Still, all SB16 models are able to use 8-bit DMA channel for HDMA and this can be useful for 8086/8088 computers even though no common software of that era used 16-bit mixing. So far, the only program that supports this on such computer is Mod Master XT and that wasn't available in the 80s.
