LAPC I turns PC off when connecting MIDI cable

Dear all,

Strange thing:
I connected my LAPC via MIDI cable (din sub 15 to MIDI in out din5) to my external general MIDI device.

So I wanted to turn on my pc but nothing happened. I checked everything and… when I disconnect the MIDI cable the pc turns on normally. When I connect the MIDI cable to the lapc during operations the pc turns immediately off …

I then checked the MIDI cable with my soundscape (while lapc keeping installed) and no problem. MIDI all working.

What the heck is going on?? Seems like an electricity issue maybe grounding ?

Do you have any ideas? I can’t imagine that it works with a mcb1 only. That would at least not explain the above behavior won’t it.

Wait I just found this one in a late forum post:

From the MCB-1, you will then need to connect to the SC-55.
You can't use the joystick to MIDI cable with LAPC-I and to the SC-55. It may even fry the LAPC-I. 😉

You might be able to make one yourself, the circuit should be similar to the adapters used for the game port, but pinout doesn't match.
