How to use one sound card as only a midi mpu interface.

I want to use an als4000 card just for my midi hooked to a sc-55 for play back in dos and windows 98. Then a sound blaster live! for the digital sounds. I kind of had it working but I would get freezes sometimes and conflicts. Maybe there is a guide that help with setup that I haven't found. Or someone has some good tips.

Sounds like resource conflict to me. Creative drivers should offer WDM or VXD drivers. If you don't need dos comptibility with the sblive through native dosbox under windows 98 than just install the WDM drivers. The Creative VXD drivers will likely give you headaches becasue they don't allow resource tweaking. Try installing VXDs for the als4000 only.
