Hi!

Is it possible to use SB live in DOS and get audio from the line-in jack while not using up to much resources?

The default mixer included with the dos drivers don’t list line-in.

I’ve tried the DOSMIXER (ek1m.exe) that I found here on vogons. And while it works, it eats up 30MB or so of expanded memory when launched so can’t run doom for example.

Any other solution?

Well, you can solder a female jack to the CD-ROM audio cable and use it as line-in.

Something like this

Oh! I think I know exactly what you are talking about!

So, if you were at all like me, you wanted to use the SB Live's line-in in DOS because you have another soundcard you want to use for DOS, as opposed to the SB Live's substandard emulation. I'm not sure why, and I believe the source code for the mixer is no longer available, but EK1M only wrecked my memory when I ran it after running SBEINIT. And I actually found that for my use case, where I was only using the SB Live as a mixer in dos, I didn't even need to run SBEINIT. Only EK1M to set the mixer settings. It didn't solve the problem, but it avoided it entirely.

Impossible ! I will check tomorrow. (I have such configuration: SB Vibra16s connected to line-in of SB Live!).

Edit.
Ah, OK. Looks like I didn't even tried to use SBEINIT before...

Seems to be the exact same issue!

The reason for me is to route my output from my mt-32 connected to picogus to my SB live. And also get SFX from the emulated SB16 from the live. So need to use sbeinit I’m afraid 🙁

Only have one ISA port on my MB(P3B-f)where the picogus sits. So not optimal.

I’ll probably have to change motherboard to one with 2xISA slots so I can use the line in on my SB32 instead of the Live. Or use a external mixer, but like to keep the clutter to a minimum on my desk 😀
