I found this (probably OEM) Aztech sound card. Anyone here has any idea about the model and the correct DOS drivers?

Ok. Cool. I really thought i had a complete list of all existing Aztech soundcards...
This one is not in my list. Is this a Packard Bell model?
What i can tell you is that this is a third generation Aztech card.
It is very similar to a MMSN830 (Reveal SC 400) minus the CD Rom Interfaces. Or a MMSN837 (Packard Bell 030069).
You could try the drivers for the MMSN826 (Sound Galaxy Waverider 32+). This card also looks like your card minus the wavetable.

Interesting on your card is the combination of a original Yamaha YMF262 FM chip-and a copy of the Yamaha YAC512 Digital Analog converter (LS5122).
It doesnt matter and sounds exactly the same... but its interesting anyway 😁

It’s even more obscure than that!
It was taken right out of this!

Help me troubleshoot a vintage old Japanese all-in-one 486

Its interesting to see it actually wired in a system.
Im guessing its connected to the weird tv-tuner media control board and the modem?
And congratulations on your Woody...

But now it makes sense that i dont have it on my list.
My list is based on the FCC ids of Aztech. This card was probably never sold outside of Japan, so it doesnt need a FCC number...

The MMSN826 without wavetable is the MMSN824. Agreed that this looks functionally identical to it, so I'd try those tools (no need for drivrs in DOS).

Thanks! Do you think it would be feasible to add an external speaker port on the back? The pads seem to be there, but they are unpopulated.

Possibly. Look for a good pic of an MMSN824 to ID the components you need. Add them and it might just work, unless there is a card-specific config blocking that output. Doubt it though, speaker is usually same output as line-out, just amplified.

That card looks like MMSN842/855 Multimedia Audio Telephony 3200/3260 with the modem part missing so try the audio drivers for that IMO.

Drivers for those cards can be found attached to this post on VOGONS.

MMSN824 will not work that card has a Crystal Codec.

FYI Windows 95 recognized it as a Washington 16. It loads the drivers automatically but no sound.

If i remember correctly the washington has a crystal codec...

This MMSN850 should be the Washington: (Also called Sound Galaxy Nova 16 Extra II)

The AZT chip is common with a Washington and apprently the device ids are the same as well but the Codecs are definitely different and those drivers won't get any sound from this card. Please try the drivers I linked above.

Lets come back to this ^

I would not fit the Speaker output.... I would fit the Line Output. (Your card is missing both of them)
The Line output probably works fine and is just on a internal header and the connector for external line out is just not fitted.
The speaker output will require you to fit a lot of resistors, caps and an amp.

The codecs were interchangable and Aztech could & did release cards of the same type with either Crystal or AD codec, just like they mixed & matched real OPL3 & YAC512 and their clones.

Can you provide an example? I would like to take some notes for my list.
Until now all cards i have always have the same codec for the same fcc id.

I am working on a sspreadsheet to identify the all aztech soundcards properly based on the used chips.

Do you know how they made the drivers work for both versions of the cards?
Or did they simply pack a specific driver to these cards based on the components they used?
I really want to understand why there are so many driver problems with aztech cards.

It would be amazing to make a driver pack suitable for all variants.
But im not skilled enough to make and analyse drivers.

i have 4 mmsn822 and i have never looked at the codecs... i will do it right now 😁

Very good choice 😁 ( love the factory bodge wires on mine 😀 )
The traces around the bodge area on my 1.1A version seem to be different from the 1.2y version from your picture.
Its amazing how much i have learned here in this thread 😁
