I'm trying to figure out what drum kit this is from since I'm needing it for some remake projects. I've heard it used in other game soundtracks before, but the clearest one I can pull is Tetris CD-i.

If anyone knows where it comes from, I'd really love to know! Thanks!

Hey, Trevor. It's really hard to tell what was used on this game. There was a lot of ROMpler synths around the early 90s. It sounds to me like Yamaha XG style, except this soundtrack predates that! Since I don't think it's a Roland kit, I'm going to say Yamaha or Korg from that era. Could probably ask Jim though.

Got any other examples?

Actually, it's on the Web! A friend of mine has it on is webpage:

"Primarily from a Yamaha TG-77 and a Roland JV-10, both rack mount. I really liked the Yamaha, such great, clear sounds with bite.

Digital Performer was, and still is, my DAW of choice.
I might have had Sample Cell then, but I don’t remember. I remember waiting five minutes for it to load 8 megs of samples!"

There's no such thing as a JV-10, maybe he meant a JV-880 (nothing JV-10** existed until well after this game). Parts does sound like early Roland JV to me.
Could have been a Roland D-110 as well.

I'm going to assume the TG-77 drums are what we're hearing in the Tetris track. Here's a sample of the patch I think it is:

D-110 drums, which I don't think it is:

JV-880 drums, which it could also be:

Here are a few examples I have of the same kit being used in some anime soundtracks.

I found the kit that was used in the Tetris CD-i soundtrack, but it's not the one I'm after, after closely comparing 🙁
It was very close sounding, but not exact. Here's one more example I have.

Keep in mind, MIDI modules have lots of options to adjust the sound via the controls on the front of the module. So if a recording is very close but not exact, it’s likely to be the correct module, the musician just adjusted the settings on the module.
