The instrument timbre is exactly the same as when sc88pro/sc8850 use sc55 map.
28voices is obviously not enough, notes are cutting off.
Sc88pro and sc8850(sc55 map) sound a little smoother than sc55, older doesn't always sound better

88 has higher resolution digital stage than 55, 8850 even more so.

Instrument patches are clearly different in the 88 and 8850, yes they have a 55 compatible map, but the quality of the samples is clearly better in (almost) all cases.

Why wouldn't later units be improved?

Modern software synths are really handy, but if you want the authenticity (the warts and all sound) then only the original will do.

Did you try to change all the capacitors with pieces of wire with bigger gauge as you explain that you did with the fuse and the power cord? As far as I know these damn capacitors have dielectric materials inside, so this is not good for the waveform and the current flow 😆😆😆
