I have a SB16 CT2290 and I need to disable the IDE interface because I want to free up the IRQ. On Stason I found that I can set the IRQ with jumpers JP1 to JP5, but there’s no option (it seems) to completely disable the IDE controller.

Any ideas how I can disable it?

You can only move it out the way by making it a 3rd or 4th channel, assuming it conflicts with any onboard channel to make that necessary. Removal of the jumper is enough to free up the IRQ though.

No, that is exactly what will cause an IRQ collission and possibly prevent the IO card's IDE from functioning. You remove the jumper altogether, which prevents SB16 from driving the IRQ signal, making it free for other stuff to use.
Terniary or quaternary will move the IO ports so that the IO card won't be colliding with it.
