Are passive mixers safe? I was always told you shouldn't directly connect the outputs of two different audio devices.

I've been using this little passive Rolls for years without issue: https://rolls.com/product/MX41b

You lose some gain of course, but not enough to be a problem.

Those passive mixers will probably be safe because they don’t just connect the outputs together. There is enough resistance between the input and the point where they are all joined that they are not able to short each other out. That’s why the output signal is lower and needs more amplification.

Yes there are two resistors on each port one for right and one for left. Then the trim pot for varying the volume of the signal. (Probably on the common)

I use this 1988 mixer with a 486 and a Pentium 3.

Are the inputs stereo? Most pro mixers I've come across have maybe 2 stereo inputs, the rest are all mono. Most DJ mixers seem to be stereo, but only 2-4 channels, so not much good for multiple soundcard/rompler setups.

They are mono inputs, with panning set to left and right, so 16 channels becomes 8 stereo channels. The ouputs are stereo. One set of balanced (XRL) and one set of line ouputs (6.2mm jacks). I have to use an attenuator for channel 1 and 2 since they are microphone level. (Seen on top of the mixer).
