I'm confused on how to go about getting some juicy MT-32 music easiest on my old PCs and Macs. I've owned an actual MT-32 and sold it like an idiot. I've read about MUNT, but honestly even though I have three capable PCs close to my retro setups to run it from it sounds like a lot of cable juggling.

This brought me to the MT32pi project, most specifically BulkyMidi as it seems pretty well documented. I've looked on PCB Way and I have never ordered from there. I can solder, self taught and still newish, but have no electrical background of any type. If I add all the shared projects required for the kit to my cart and order does it include everything required to build? There's no extra info I'm seeing as to how tell. I know it should include inputs and outputs and a display and electrical components but I don't know how to tell of anything at all is even included.

I've seen a slightly less attractive visually version for sale on Tindie for about $55 and as much fun as soldering is and building yourself in general is that the more cost effective option? I'd probably like to make two of them to dedicate to Mac and PC games. I just am confused. I'm also open to other options. And I think I remember plenty about hooking both setups up to real Roland hardware that I'm not too concerned about that part.

My favorite variant of the mt32 pi is the wavetable version using pi zero w 2
https://github.com/scrapcomputing/WavetablePi
They are cheap to build and easy to install. I have one paired with a picogus and and another on a Phil and chill adapter connected to awe64 gold with softmpu.

I also built a mt32 pi3b with a custom hat. I need to finish designing a 3d case for it. But it’s more annoying to setup. I can use serial or midi to usb through a Roland muone.
The wavetable is connect and forget.

I think you should read the mt32-pi wiki. Really all the info needed to build one is there.
You know mt32 pi is munt running on the pi?

Thats pretty cool. I probably should mention though that on my DOS and Windows PCs I already have a Dreamblaster X2 GS so it definitely has to be external plus there is no ability to use them with my classic Macs

perhaps this is a solution if you don't want to build one your self: https://www.serdashop.com/MP32L
