hi all

I acquired this card :

IMG-7582.jpg

as you can see it does not have audio jacks, I assume it was part of a system that had custom ribbon cable connected to it leading to front panel or back panel.

Can someone please help me figure out what cable am I looking for ? or at least a pin configuration on the port on the card?

Any other thoughts how to get this working?

thanks!

This card is probably made to be used with internal speakers using the top-right connector.

A Gateway machine?

So maybe looking at Gateway's range for the era of the card might shed some light?

....

What is this game-port only thing? https://wiki.preterhuman.net/File:D6-266-3.jpg

There's an internal picture, looks like the internal connector is in the card

I'm tempted to say the card is from an early attempt at a lounge-TV system, the Gateway Destination. The rear picture has loads of connectors for audio, the ribbon connector looks to be wired to the rear connector box.

Yeah you are right, looks like it!

Found this … might be only way to figure out what wire is what signal so can solder my own audio out jack

Cathode Ray Dude made a video, and a picture on Wikimedia is from his video.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4HAqGrJFCU at 16:50 it makes an appearance.

Maybe the user NetFreak on this wiki can get a photo inside the back panel?
https://wiki.preterhuman.net/Gateway_2000_Destination_D6-266

It does seem there was a revision of the system.

This page has a shot of the back, and a game port is on the mainboard. The voodoo betrays where PCI cards end, next modem, then nothing. So in this Destination the audio must be onboard.... and are some ports blanked-off below the gameport? The A/V panel on the back, or its wring, might be different to yours.

The ebay auction you found clearly has no gameport on the blanking plate, so that Destination must have had a card originally. That harness I think is the one for your card. Maybe the seller will open it up and take some photos, although if it has been on the 'bay for a month already, the seller might just take a very low price to get rid of it.

Good luck

If all you care about having working is the audio output, this should be pretty easy to figure out with an oscilloscope. You just need to find the two pins with active waveforms while the card is playing audio. You can then determine left and right by moving the software fader/balance to see which one is which.

Not sure it's worth it other than for the sheer curiosity. VIVO-90s are like weeds. I think I've unintentionally ended up with like 8 of them over the years just buying old Gateway PCs.
