Hi, now that I have a MU2000EX, can it replace my MU50 for DOS games or will it sound differently? Thank you

€dit: System -> Map has two options, "MU basic" and "MU100 Native".
If my ears are not mistaken, "MU basic sounds like my MU50"

The general opinion is that you can ditch the MU50 - send it to a good home, please - and will enjoy the swiss army knife functionality of the MU2000EX for all of your XG and GM MIDI uses.

The general opinion

the general opinion of whom?! because after all Yamaha themselves made "PLG100-XG" card, which is MU50 on a PLG card, exactly to add MU50 compatibility to all later models that have PLG Expansion slots. so, there is not a single sound (that I know of), which the WaveROM(s) of MU2000 and MU50 share. of course, I welcome all and any information on the subject and don't claim at all I know everything or anything.

[EDIT] i've just found:

No reason to keep the 50. MuBasic mode gives you the Mu80 (50) sounds but with digital output.

The PLG100-XG was really meant for adding XG support to keyboards.
