I am working on finishing up a few 90s builds and still debating on what components to put in which system. The first one I'm working on finishing up is a Pentium 233 MHz system with 64 MB SDRAM which I plan to use for DOS/Win98, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to use a RIVA 128 as the primary graphics card. My initial thought was to pair it with a single Voodoo2 card for 3dfx games, but given the relatively limited performance of the CPU I wonder if that would be a wasted use case for having a Voodoo2. I also have a Voodoo1 which I am planning to possibly use on a 486 DX/4 in conjunction with a S3 Virge, but wondering now if it would be better to put the V1 in the Pentium computer.
For what it's worth I have quite a few systems so I don't need one or even a few computers to cover all bases. I currently have a V1, 5 V2s, a V3 and a V5 and I plan to build a couple of computers around V2 SLI, so I'll have high performance 3dfx covered. I'm just wondering specifically in this case if a V2 in a Pentium 233 build would be too limited. I only plan to use this system for later DOS and early Windows 95/98 games.
I guess to better help answer my question, can the games which are only compatible with a V1 run well enough on a 486 DX/4 or even a DX/2??
