Is there a way to get 256 color video modes in Windows 3.11 with an Nvidia GeForce 6200 card?

Perhaps a driver or patch?

The 6000 series is really the wrong GPU to be doing DOS/Win3.11 with, I doubt very much you will find any kind of driver or patch for win3.11.

What card would you advise for DOS, 3.11 and 98SE? My motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot.

What is your system specs ?
Its hard to suggest a suitable PCI based gpu without knowing what system its going into.

The early era of PCI based GPUs involves a lot of cards and some of them have quirks with certain motherboards.

But based on 98 and DOS/win3.11 a MX400 PCI or one of the Voodoo3/Banshee PCI cards would fit well enough, all three have great DOS compatibility and should handle Win3.11 just fine too but there are also PCI options with the Riva128 and TnT2 based cards that would also work fine.

If money isn't a big issue then a 4mb S3 Virge DX/GX with a 12mb Voodoo2 would also cover your use case quite well, the Voodoo2 would run 98 games rather well and the Virge would handle DOS/Win3.11 perfectly.

There are plenty of other options but knowing what systems its going into would help narrow them down.

Hmm that model has both on board SiS 6326 AGP graphics and Creative ES1373 sound, really you could just use the on board SiS graphics and grab a Voodoo2 for windows 98 3d games. The on board SiS AGP GPU is why that Super 7 board doesnt have an AGP slot, its a nice compact board too!

There are 3.11 drivers for that GPU as well https://driverscollection.com/?file_id=13977

I thought the integrated video RAM would be too low, that's why I opted for a discreet card.

I'll see if I can find the onboard video cable and test its performance.

Thanks. 😀

6200 just isn’t going to work very well on 586.

Let alone 3.11

Though I can’t comment much on 3.11 drivers.

I did run 3.11 on my radeon 7500 and I’m pretty sure it did 256 color. I think it was using some sort of generic driver though

Try geforce 5000 series or radeon 9000 series or older. Use the oldest drivers you can.

I’ve had really good luck with radeon 7000 and 9000 series

Its got 8mb of ram which is overkill for DOS and Win3.11, I have no idea how good itll be for win98 though.
