I'm in the process of restoring and assembling my old systems that have been picked over and cannibalized over the years, along with making all the upgrades couldn't afford at the time. I've got a Diamond Stealth 64 S3 964 2mb with open slots for an additional 2mb. I have seen some references to upgrading the memory, but they either don't say what they used or are not clear. The memory on board is km428c256j, I can not find this particular memory in sufficient quantities for a reasonable price. Will km416c256j memory work in its place? That I can find all over eBay for about $2/ea. I know it's probably not worth it, I don't think the monitor I plan on using it with supports resolutions higher than 1280x1024, but for less than $50 it's a good conversation starter.

No, it won’t work as the 964 uses VRAM and the 416c256 is regular DRAM.

You can try to search for “40-pin SOJ 256x8 dual port video RAM” or something similar to include other manufacturers so you don’t restrict the results to Samsung chips (KMxxxxx).

Perfect, that's exactly what I needed to know. Thanks!
