I got it working again this morning but eventually you’ll see this.

Attached a couple pics of current state of pins. With the way a few of the pins are smashed in I don’t see a way to improve this much more on my own.

We’ll shoot guys, sometimes you forget the basics, I cleaned the pins in the pci edge and now I’m running PureVex atm.

That's great news ! Read that if you want ideas of games and apps to run on it :

The game "Take No Prisoners" is said to look good on Midas3. It's an Expendable-like game mixing 2D sprites and 3D environnements.

Wonder if Midas3 can join the fun of OpenGL via Techland's MiniGL drivers.

Hello everyone, let me introduce myself. I'm Italian, and I'm a big enthusiast of graphics cards and processors. I've been a nerd for about thirty years or so. 😄 The PCX2 was my first 3D graphics card, and thanks to this forum, after 25 years, I managed to replace the crystal and restore it to its former glory. I've read the entire thread, and I really hope that someone willing and capable can program a new SGL to OpenGL driver. This card deserves so much more, and now that the source code has been released, I genuinely hope that something can happen. I'm attaching a picture of my modified and overclocked M3D. Oh, and this is my YouTube channel. Whenever I have time, I always share something interesting for fellow old-school nerds: https://www.youtube.com/@JackJungle/videos

See you soon! 😉

You did quote him saying it's "modified and overclocked" 😀

Yeah, I did 🤣
@xabarax how high is it overclocked, then ?

Mine (90MHz)

Mine is working with a 20MHz crystal, so I believe the correct calculation is 20 * 3.7 = 74MHz. 😀
I just tried it with a 24MHz crystal, but it's a no-go. Considering that it has been dead for 25 years, it is still a tremendous achievement. 😀

I'm glad to hear that 😀
No mine working at 74Mhz 😉

If only I have programming skills...I'm still stuck at programming the Z80.
I've spent about 3-4 days trying to start System Shock 2 with textures. I've tried everything my experience has taught me, but I haven't had any success. I'm really disappointed.

PCX2 cannot do blending functions (hardware limitation), so it'll always show the unblended lightmap instead. The Dark engine has no fallbacks for this.

I happened to acquire NEC PC 3DEngine, the PCX1 card with a heat-spreader. In the several tests I did in half an hour, it consistently outperforms the 60 Mhz PCX1 by ~10%. So it seems the 66 MHz specification did materialize in NEC's own cards.

The PCX1 is very similar to the PCX2 architecturally, and my testing with multiple crystals showed a very linear performance uplift.

I'd like to test unreal engine games, is there an easy way to downscale .utx files to fit in the 4mb ?

You don't have to because the SGLDrv dynamically switches LODs/mips to fit to prevent thrashing. It kinda does what UnrealEngine3 and idTech 5 would be infamous for.
Every texture contains mipmaps so there'd be no point in doing file modification processes anyway, and most of the games are made for 4MB texture memory already!

I don't manage to find the PowerVR version of the Motorhead demo. I suppose this is the D3D one. All the ones I came accross are either 3Dfx or software versions. Including on the Internet Archive. Does anyone have this version ?
@leileilol, that's a bit late, but thanks for your reply.

If it exists I didnt find it when doing research for the list of PowerVR titles. It includes links to demos where PowerSGL is included. 3D Accelerated Games List (Proprietary APIs - No 3DFX/Direct3D)

Perhaps I wasn't clear, but I don't think it's a PowerVR SGL version, but rather D3D which is compatible with (and quite well optimised for) PowerVR.
It's frustrating because I know I have it on a PC that I won't have access to until June.
