This ATI Rage 3D Pro card is kind of confusing

Postby DaveJustDave » 2019-1-10 @ 08:21

So i'm in the middle sorting out the hardware going into my variable speed 233MX build, and came across this in one of my bins.

It's confusing because the slot looks to be PCI, but the chip indicates AGP 2X..
is this some sort mac card that made its way into my PCI video card bin by mistake?

The chip itself can do both AGP and PCI like some older video card chips can do VLB and PCI with same chip. The chip on this one is in PCI mode on a PCI card.

It is indeed a Macintosh video card going by the "XClaim 3D Pro" sticker. XClaim was ATI's brand for their Mac product lineup. The onboard ROM is for Open Firmware equipped machines, not the tradition PC VGA ROM.
