resident evil 1 and 2 and unsupported video cards.

Postby dan86 » 2019-11-26 @ 15:38

I hope I posted this in the right spot. If not let me know. Thanks.

Resident evil 1 and 2 have a pretty tight list of video cards that can play the game. Aside form emulators, wrappers and software rendering mode does anyone know of a way to get ether resident evil 1 or 2 to run in hardware 3d on unsupported video cards?
If it I recall Resident evil 2 had a page in the setting menu that allowed you to add support for other cards or something. Could that be used to add, say support for a voodoo3/5 or geforce card?

I have some experience although not a lot. I ran RE2 on a voodoo 3 using banshee option, so it may be possible to play this game with nglide.

RE1 is another story, the only hardware rendering I know of is NEC PCX1/2 there is no wrapper for that, plus that game the UK unut NEC version is rare and hard to get and only runs on that card.

Thanks for the info. I was more hoping for a method that didn't need emulators or wrappers.
As for RE1, Here in the USA the game supported a few cards, but I can't recall what all cards

Anyone have anything else to add to this?

RE2 the best hardware rendering is a voodoo 3 and I think it will work with banshee as well but I never tested that. This is the best way to play the original version of this game.

RE1 the best hardware rendering was with power VR. There is direct 3d rendering that will work fine with a voodoo 3 or a banshee, and probably TNT2 and cards like this this is not glide though and it doesn't look as good as power vr.

Theres honestly nothing else to know I told you everything.

RE2 supports the voodoo 3 ? odd my copy doesn't have a option for the voodoo3

it probably does it just doesn't explicitly list the card it lists a banshee or a rush during setup and you just use that cards driver. I'm pretty sure with a patch it will support a voodoo 2 as well. you probably just were not aware that it worked even though it doesn't say it does and you are just not doing it right.

There must be different versions. My copy of RE2 supports the voodoo2 and banshee out of the box, and the TNT via the update patch. But not the voodoo3. The voodoo3 does not work with the banshee setting ether from what I recall. I'll give the game a try again when I get my 9x system together.

I can provide proof that it works if once you tried it you can't get it to work.
