I have a Geforce 2 GTS which is not running on a socket A mainboard (VIA KT 133 chipset).
It gives some beep and is not booting.

But instead .... inside my SS7 board (VIA MVP3 chipset), it's booting.

I have no idea why it is so picky .... 🙁

Have you tried changing the AGP mode in the bios on the KT133 board? Do other AGP cards work in the Socket A board?

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

The PSU might be the culprit. Otherwise, how do its capacitors look ? Are you running the latest BIOS? Is there a reason why you are keeping the KT133 board's brand and model from us ? 😀

It's this beep code error:
1 times long , 2 times short.
Wikipedia gives for the AWARD BIOS: VGA error

The board which is the GF2 GTS not working :
Abit KT7 with a Thunderbird installed.

I was testing some VGA cards, install driver & benchmarking. Two of them are working, the GTS not. All of them are AGP 2x/4x cards.
The mainboard should handles this.

  • Riva TNT2 Pro : working
  • Geforce 2 Ti : working
  • Asus V7700 Geforce 2 GTS : not working - error is still there, no matter if i set to AGP2x or AGP4x. AGP size also (64M od 4M) also doesn't matter ...

Additional info: The VGA card cooling is changed, that means the fan is removed and a new heatsink installed. Additional fan support is there.
The board was recapped, only the critical caps. For the 420W PSU (with 40A rail): it's recapped completely last week. PSU meter says: +5.1V / +12.0V / +3.3V

I remember, that once i have installed this card last year. And it was working.

It is possible that there is something about the removal of the fan (3-pin) ? This seems not logical to me...

Tested some further card. My Geforce 4 Ti 4800SE, which is a AGP4X/8X card.

It works 100%, no problems with the start process.

That is strange .

Could it be a mechanical issue ? IE bad contact in the AGP slot due to loose tolerances at manufacture ?

The only thing I can think of to try would be a plastic safe electrical contact cleaner for both the card and the slot.
