I've had this thing for a few months, got it in a haul of a bunch of other retro stuff..

But I can't figure out which specific model it is, is it the S3 variant, the 1280, or what?

hopefully someone has encountered one of these before, and can shed some light on it for me, the text at the back of the card that's been cut off just says Orchid Fahrenheit 1991 VA/VLB - but there's several different cards that fall under that category

Thanks guys, appreciate any info you can give

That's an S3 805 graphics chip (P86C805), it even has the old S3 logo.

That means the card is probably a Fahrenheit 1280+ (although the Vogons Wiki also lists two other Fahrenheit models that use the 805, the LB and VA).

No, this card is VLB, it should be considerably faster than any ISA VGA, including the Tseng.

EDIT: by the way, I completely missed it in your original post, but the text on the card clearly indicates that it is an Orchid Fahrenheit VA.
