I think it was very creative, albeit unexpected.

Very nice. I noticed yesterday that core and memory speeds for the 5600 is not that far off from the 5800. There are probably other significant differences, but would you mind comparing it to the 5800 please?

Quake3 demo001 if you can. If you update Quake to the latest version, then you need to convert demo001 to a .66 extension or something like that.

Love the box art. Disappointed there wasn't actual packing macaroni!

I. Love. That.
There's no way that card uses GDDR3 though. 😀

Heh, I've sent Xmas parcels to the fam before and used bags of ground coffee and boxes of mac'n'cheese as "dunnage".

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

I don't have an FX 5800 to compare with. I have a Quadro FX 1000 en route by mail which is similar.

I'm still trying to fill out my collection of FX era cards but current prices are more than I'm willing to pay for some models.

The two cards use a different chip: NV30 on the 5800 vs. NV31 on the 5600. The NV31 only has half the TMUs of the NV30 (4 vs. 8 ) resulting in roughly two thirds of the transistors (80 million vs. 125 million). The 5800 also uses GDDR2 while the 5600 uses DDR.
So much for the theory of it; I have neither of those cards to do a practical comparison.😅

I assumed he knew they were different and just wanted a comparison. They are very different, yes!
