I had problems running VQuake2, it was the newish reference driver "v2k-3.0b5".
You are using "Release 3.0, build 5078 -- December 15th, 1998", I guess that's the problem.

With the latest Hercules driver "th3dw085.exe" no problems at all. Driver can be found here.

Wow so many verite cards...
This thread along with the other that has the game shots makes me want to get one too, kinda want to check a V2200 card for quite some time but never found a cheap one to get. One day though I'll join the club 🤣

Or you can be like me. Bought mine (no label on the chip see above) for $4 from a used parts store some 5 years ago or so, had it sitting at home all these years, didn't even know it was a V2200, thought it was just a random generic PCI VGA card.

I kinda and kinda not want a V2sometihng also

Kinda because of the odd GL testing potential with early generation hardware 😀

Kinda not because of the fact i've pretty much decommisssioned all of my old rigs right now. PCem is making them really dusty 🤣

I thought I'd share two cards from the development of the Rendition Verite line:

This one has holes for mounting a test socket on the pcb, early chip version, it had a fan and heatsink at one point, green pcb, two BIOS chips but doesn't boot-up.

This one has holes for mounting a test socket on the pcb, chip version V1000-M, functional.

It looks more like where someone would mount a heatsink+ fan and bolt it through the board like later nvidia/amd boards had to me.. but I doubt these cards ever ran hot enough to warrant that.

Not really. In the development stages of silicon they much rather have a pcb with socket like the one in the bellow pictures from which they can easily replace the chip when new batches of silicon were created and not loose time with soldering. Only once they got a stable chip then they would solder it to a board for further testing but the pcb layout was the same with appropriate reworks.

The only reason you don't see these this often because the socket itself is expensive and only few boards had them and those were kept in house by the engineers that worked on them.
The heatsink on the Rendition green prototype card has held in place by an adhesive thermal pad which is still attached to the chip and can be seen in the picture I posted. Why I believe it had a fan because there is a connector which seems to have been torn which would power the fan. Why they would put a fan on it well it was early development stages of the chip which ran hotter than the revision which reached production stages or just because they wanted to remove the heat factor as a potential issue.

I'm still hoping for more Hercules Thriller Conspiracy fun, like if there was a demo which showed off the Fujitsu chip or something 😀

That makes two of us. Until someones find the drivers and compatible application to put the Fujitsu chip through it's paces the card will just be a nice display item in my collection.

Hello guys, I hope some of you are able to help me to get some RRedline / Speedy3D games to run.

My Test-setup:

PII-333
Asus P3B-F
256MB RAM
Windows 98SE completely unpatched + DX6.1a
QDI Legend V2200 8MB AGP
3Com NIC 100MBit
no Soundcard

What does run:

Grand Prix Legends
vHexen2
Interstate 76 Gold
Mechwarrior 2: Titanium Edition
Monster Truck Madness 2
Quake II (MiniGL GOLD as well as RRedline Renderer)
SODA Off-Road Racing
Sub Culture

EuroFighter 2000 (EF2000) v2.0 / from Windows
NASCAR Racing II (I think I tried it, not shure)
NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition / from Windows
vQuake / from Windows
Tomb Raider / from Windows

What does not:

Formula 1 (can't recall the Problem)
Heavy Gear (tried 1.0, 1.1, 1.2) - Sometimes it ends itself instantly, Sometimes the Introvideo plays end the it crashes to desktop; no error message
Myth TFL (tried 1.0, 1.3, 1.5) - Crashes instantly, no error message
Team Apache (can't recall the Problem)

Indycar Racing II (indycar2.exe for V2200): Windows: Blackscreen or Lockup (depending on driver version); DOS: screen shows colored mud, system hang
Scorched Planet: Same as Indycar II
Whiplash: I THINK the same, can't recall ATM

I tried several drivers form the vogons Rendition package (Hercules, QDI, Rendition Reference Drivers) but no luck yet.

Are there "known problems" or special things to do for these games? Any ideas?

Thanks!

No one? 🙁
I don't expect a complete solution, just maybe a general guide which drivers are best for overall use, if there are games that are known to work only with V1000 etc.
Maybe some tips to the games that don't run yet.
Most important to me are Heavy Gear, Myst and Indycar 2.
Do Heavy Gear and Myst have a Software Renderer? They just don't start at all. Indycar 2 at least starts in vanilla install under DOS.

Myth starts with 2d menu, it should not be a problem with 3d card.
Heavy Gear has dllfile.ini for choosing renderers from plugin directory. You may try enabling debug in hg.ini.
Something is wrong with your DOS in general. Dmatest.exe says something?

Thanks for your input!
Tomb Raider for example starts from plain DOS with no problems (with v2dosfix-fixed .exe), I just prefer to start games from Windows DOS-Box if possible.
DMA Performance is 72.7MB/s, FIFO Performance is 10MB/s.

I will try HGear and Myth again later today, I sadly ain't got time right now.

*Update*
Team Apache runs now, I have no clue why.

Myth still ends itself instantly it doesn't even really start. No error message.

Formula 1 only works with D3D Version, the Rendition Version shows the same behavior as Myth.

Heavy Gear has the 3dfxXYZ.dll in the dllfile.ini after installation. If I change it to rendition or DX5 it still won't start. The start screen with "Commencing Mission" shows, then it crashes after 1 or 2 seconds. After I put -debug behind the .exe it shows the following error after it crashes: -fatal error #2A: SYSERR_CENTOPENBWDPRJFILE: Error extracting BWD data from PRF file: S.$ ID -1.
I installed the game recently on my Voodoo 1 Box from the same medium and the 3dfx Version doesn't have any problems 😒

€dit:
Whiplash runs fine from Windows and DOS now, but if I end it, the screen turns black and the computer freezes (under Windows as well as under DOS same behavior). Is that a known behavior?

I made a picture from what happens when "the screen goes mud" in speedy3D Games:

img_20160911_105214trrsz.jpg

This happens with Scorched Planet and IndyCar II. All other Speedy3D Games that I have here run fine now from DOS and Windows Dosbox.
In Indycar 2 I used the indycar2.exe, I tried the spd3d.uc file that comes with the .exe (from icr2_v2k.zip) and an updated(?) spd3d.uc from "icr2 replacement (unk) Spd3d.7z", all out of the vogons Rendition patch collection. They both show the same behavior.

Any ideas?
