I finally got it on Vista!
I had to reinstall it on my C drive (didn't work on second hdd)
and set it to use Windows 98 compatibility mode. No DLL fixes needed

Core 2 Duo E6700 OC to 3GHZ and Radeon 6670
I am sure it is vsync locked so I will try to see if I can force it off

Yea v-sync is locked smeezekitty on that report.
Try ati tray tools or d3d overrider.
But, you should be able to force it off with the normal catalyst control panel.
I was able to on vista + a x800.

No such luck so far.
The drivers are arrogant about Vsync

CCC set to force off does nothing
RadeonPRO set to force off does nothing
D3DOverrider doesn't start
ATItray tools errors out "Can not initialize ATIPDLXX library!"

I agree! Had very good experiences with VIA chipsets and Athlon XP / Sempron processors.

For later S754 and S939 chips however Nvidia made some decent chipsets. I remember having these uATX motherboards from Asrock. They all had Nvidia chipset with integreated graphics: http://www.asrock.com/mb/index.asp?s=754

I swear by them. Rock solid motherboards.

overall its not bad at all , although there 2 issues Ive found

1)there is no option to disable the L1/2 caches, which makes slowing down the PC for some older DOS games a bit difficult (although mysteriously some games like King's Quest 6 which needed slowdown before, run fine now, so who knows)

2) there seems to be some sort of problem, where randomly when turning on the computer, Win98 will not go into the desktop , Windows itself loads fine , but the desktop won't show up (basically just giving me just the wallpaper background) , its not frozen or anything, it kind of just stays there . Restarting the PC usually works and it loads fine afterwards, so Im not sure whats going on

I'm pretty happy with my system, but I've been thinking about getting a Geforce 256 and a couple of Voodoo2s. A Voodoo3 3000/3500 would be cool too, but I'm thinking it would be better to use a 32-bit capable card for opengl and d3d titles, tho I always end up setting most games to 16-bit anyways to get smoother framerates. Severance runs fairly well on my current configuration tho, so I don't really need to change anything.

joacim's score makes me think there is something wrong with my system , because I can't imagine the Athlon 1000/V5500 being beaten by a PIII 933/TNT2. obviously not a competition , but it makes me wonder if the some settings are wrong, and Im not getting the most out of it.

suppose it could also be something to do with Windows Me vs 98se

Your scores doesn't sound right to me either. Is it normal for 3dfx cards to score this low in 3DMark 99?

http://www.voodooland.org/tests/ben.htm

This site makes it look like it is normal. My system gets a better score in 99, but the V5500 destroys mine in 00 and 01 (I get 3317 in 00 and 1396 in 01). I'm guessing this is just a quirk with 3DMark 99.

ok , ran the tests

3dmark2000 (1024X768X16) - 4366 , interestingly If I picked the "3DNow optimization" as opposed to the standard Athlon ones, the score is lower,
3dmark2001 (1024X768X32) - 1876

well its an improvement , though Im not sure its as high as it could go (given the V5500 can usually outdo the GF256 DDR, a considerably more capable card than the TNT2)
those results on that page are probably in part due to the Athlon XP being used.

Yes the clock is lower than a V3 3500 or V3 3500TV, however it can do 32 bit rendering and 2048x2048 textures.

Yes, 166 MHz vs 183 MHz. Having only done a few benchmarks, the V4 is faster in some games (Turok 2 and Incoming), the same speed (Quake II) or slower (Forsaken).
