Hey guys-

Not sure if this should go here or "System Specs" so feel free to move it! Wanted to start a thread dedicated to my newly-acquired 3DFX Voodoo5 6000. I finally got it up and running and here are the specs for the existing setup:

Specs:
Motherboard: EpoX 8K3A+ Socket 462 (VIA KT-333/VT8233A)
Processor: AMD Athlon XP 3000+ (AXDA3000DKV4D) (KQYHA) Socket 462 (2003)
Memory: 1GB PC2700 DDR
Graphics Card: 3DFX Voodoo5 6000 3700 128MB HiNT Rev. A with Hank Semenec PCI-PCI Rework
Power: Using 2-Pin->2-Pin Molex Connector (No Voodoo Volts...someday... 😢)
Power Supply: Seasonic G550 modular power supply
OS: Windows 2000 SP4

BIOS Settings:
*Disabled Video BIOS shadow or cache
*Disabled VGA palette snoop or DAC snoop
*Disabled Hidden refresh
*Disabled Byte Merge
*Disabled spread spectrum clocking

Hank Semenec quotes- "In the future make also sure that the spread spectrum clocking is turned off! The PCI PLLs in VSA-100 jitter a lot and spread spectrum is not helping."

The Prep
Basically building a Windows 2000 SP4 based test bench here here using my 3DFX Voodoo5 5500 AGP card. Once everything's up and running, I'll swap the card for the V5-6000, change the BIOS settings and install the drivers. This particular EpoX board was recommended by the 3DFX engineers for it's stability with most revs of the 3DFX Voodoo5 5000 (yes, not 5500), the Voodoo5 6000 and even the pre-production Rampage cards. This board also supports the AMD Barton (3000+) chips and shows AGP voltage on the post screen - very important since the V5-6000 is a 3.3v AGP card and has a voltage tolerance of about 10%.

That's kind of ridiculous.

What is the fan noise like? Do you have to secure the motherboard to keep the fans from moving it? 😀

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

It's surprisingly quiet! A gentle whirring noise.. I actually hear the hard drive & CPU cooler more than the fans.

Nice to see this beauty running. 😀

Epox KT333 boards really are the best. Fast, stable, good compatibility, simply perfect. I have one of these myself (8K5A3+) and combined with AXP 3000+ it runs my V5 5500 AGP very well.

Oh man, what a way to start the day!

Lovely card. I don't think I will ever get one, but it's awesome seeing others still use it to this day.

Thanks all - updated OP with a video of it on first boot (anxiety starts about 10 seconds prior) 😵 You can hear the fans spinning there as well for those that wanted to get an idea of how loud they are. I gotta say, out of all the retro hardware I've collected/tested/etc., I think this one holds a special place. I know there are folks out there that hate on 3DFX, but I think even the haters have to admit, this card is an animal.

Could you post some 3dmark 2001 benchmarks? Ran at 640x480 @ 16bit so we can compare the V5 cards to V2 SLi setups and alike - also a default settings run so we can compare the V5 cards with Geforce 2 and equivalent radeon cards. That would be awsome.
