I hope you get it done soon, i'm very curious about the result!

Had to test the last p5a-b that came in so went with the k6-2+ again and messed with it. The board works fine but again: anything above 110 (112) is not stable enough, i had vio at 3,8v this time but it didn' t help at all.

It appeared to be the worst of the 2 k6-2+ cpu's i have and anything over 600mhz is a no go.... and even 5,5x110 did not work.

I finally settled for 5,5x 105fsb and did get some nice scores compared to this fairly bad overclock: 4320 3dmarks, not bad at all...

I did not get any higher as almost 4000 with 1.82 agp, 7.76 Nvidia, ti500 and some registry settings. Got about the same with Geforce2 Pro overclocked and 7.58 and 7.76

The last pretty big bump i got was from installing some latest driver i could find for agp (from uli ?) and an Ali agp utility. I selected turbo settings in that utility and it did it's magic!

Still a long way off your scores but i think for a k6-2+ at only 577mhz 4320 3dmarks is still a very nice score! Now i will play with the other k6-2+ again...

Clocking the other k6-2+ at 6x105= 630mhz only gives 4395 3dmarks.... still a nice score but this is 10% higher clock for a very small increase :dead:

Another great score considering the low speed: stock k6-3-450 at stock 4,5x100 does a very nice 3980 and almost breaks 4k!

Got the right stuff going on now but i just need a good cpu.

Nice, can't wait to see some results :).

I'm getting a DFI MVP3 board myself, courtesy of a friendly VOGONer, I'd like to see if it will make a big difference in performance to my P5A-B.

I think the p5a-b will be faster. I tested a lot of boards and p5a-b is on top up to now.

Today the ga-5ax arrived and might be the new king, will test soon

My board is the 5.2 revision but it has the ali revision ''E'' chipset so latest board does not mean latest chipset version i guess. (there was talk about it having revision ''G'' chipset)

Hi friend :) Revision is "H" I am looking for :p
However I found a motherboard that has the latest chipset of all SS7 ever made :D With WORKING internal TAGram!!
Its still in the mail so I do not want to spill the beans yet :p
However I do not think this motherboard will be the fastest :/

Yes, that's what i thought too. The latest must be a mvp4 or Ali aladdin 7...? We'll find out soon

Tested my Gigabyte GA-5AX rev. 5.2 with 2 extra k6-2+ cpu's i found at the recycler, the k6-3+ is still in the mail but coming soon.
One k6-2+ could hardly reach 600mhz, the other ran fine and i got the highest yet stable setting: 5,5x 115fsb!

Very nice board and looks brand new, 120mhz fsb i can not get stable enough with cache enabled but i will keep trying.

BUT (again....) the p5a-b scores were higher. i got 4215 3dmarks.... so at the same 630mhz but with a 10mhz higher fsb i get a lower score compared to the Asus!

Unbelievable, every board i have tested so far that is supposed to be great and among the best got beaten by the Asus.

I'm very curious what your findings are with the Gigabyte.

Back when SS7 boards were being sold new I was testing and overclocking them like crazy.

The ASUS P5A was the fastest SS7 board I ever used.

I highly doubt you are going to find anything faster than a P5A or a P5A-B in the SS7 category.

I have the p5a and the p5a-b and the baby board is even faster (a tiny bit, but this is about getting maximum 3dmark points so it counts).

I never had a P5A-B. Not sure why it would be faster than the P5A. Maybe a slight BIOS timing difference.

Are you all limiting it to the Geforce 3 series? Seems like the only real cards being run in this thread.

It is about the 7.76 driver because that seems to get the hghest scores (BIG difference compared to later ones). And there is not much between the scores of a Geforce2 vs Geforce3 and these 2 are supported by that driver, geforce4 ti for example is not.

I did test with geforce2 GTS, Pro and Ti and with geforce3 normal, Ti200 and ti500. Geforce3 seems to have the edge, doesn't matter which one.
The cpu is the bottleneck ofcourse.

For Geforce2 there is an older driver that is also fast but it seems less stable for me.

P5A 1.06 with revision G?
It IS a late one and i own one but you know it is not useful with ''+'' cpu's.... (so no, that's probably not it)

Ok, I've got a few ideas that don't involve Geforce 3 or 4 cards for that matter. Well see how it turns out once I get the stuff together and tested.

I've already got a K6-3+ and a few Socket 7 boards.. and even a ASUS P5A that may or may not be dead, but it is a rev 1.06 and apparently that version doesn't work properly with the K6-2+ or the K6-3+

A small update :)
Got the Geforce 2 Ti Elsa Gladiac 516 in the mail today. Great looking card :) This is for testing driver 7.58 with a fast card finally!
Seems to be faster than MX400. But I have ram problems at 115Mhzx5.5
My best ram chips for 633Mhz is single sided and works well on GA5AX but not P5A-B :(
Struggling to find 133Mhz CL2 ram

I've tried Geforce2 Gts, Ti and Pro and they were a fraction slower compared to the geforce3 cards. Also found the 7.76 driver to be a bit more stable.

I myself thought to have ram problems a couple of times but when i slowed down the bios settings it didn't improve so it was the fsb (or cpu) every time.

AND......another update!

Was again playing with the Gigabyte together with the new k6-3+. Got some good progress! I'm closing in but it is ofcourse VERY hard to get more points. My latest and greatest up to now:

Gigabyte Ga-5ax rev. 5.2
K6-3+ @ 5,5x 115fsb = 633mhz 2,3 volt Thermalright true copper cooler 2kg! No clamp for socket 7 but getting pressure from adding even more weight on top!
Fastest bios settings, pc133 cl2 memory
Asus geforce3 ti500
Nvidia 7.76 driver

3dmark2000 4790 3dmarks!!!

6x110fsb did not boot, not even with 2,4 volt....
I think the best is yet to come as i still believe the Asus p5a-b is quicker, i just have to get that one also to a stable enough 5,5x 115fsb or 6x110fsb. Still not giving up!

Grabbed p5a-b again, this time a 1.03 (previously used 1.04). And yet another confirmation that the Asus is the fastest: same setup, same hardddisk, same windows etc. scored 4795 3dmarks, another 5 points extra!

But it did it at just 6x105fsb! so the same 630mhz but a much slower fsb and ram speed and still it is faster. I just can not get it to 115fsb or even 110fsb with a 5.5x multi...... but there is always tomorrow
