Does the V3 3000 pci work in tandem with a AGP card via a pass thru cable like the V2's ? If not are there any Voodoo cards that would at higher resolutions than 1024 x 768 or should I just set my sights on Voodoo 5500?

Voodoo 3 and later are standalone graphics cards for both 2D and 3D rendering. Like a TNT/Geforce. No pass thru cable required. As for resolution, I read Voodoo 3 can do at least 1600x1200. But do not expect much FPS at that resolution.

You may be looking at the feature connector on the Voodoo 3? It is not an SLI connector. Only 3DFX cards that were 3D-only were Voodoo 1 and Voodoo 2. There were however some rare 3D cards which are usually not that useful most of the time (maybe except for PowerVR PCX2 or so).

You could have a Voodoo3 PCI and another AGP card installed, but as others have said, no passthrough since the Voodoo3 (and the 4 and 5) are standalone cards with 2D and 3D. The 2D is actually quite good speed- and compatibility-wise for DOS games.

A V3 3000 will probably provide useful framerates at 1280x1024, though.

Alas, I'm down to emulation.

Also if you're asking whether a pass-through cable on a V3 is possible (and not required), then again the answer is no. But they definitely go higher than 1024x768.

I was off base then, assumed since it was PCI I could run a pass-thru cable like a V2 setup. Since I want to keep the AGP card (see sig for win98 rig) my only recourse is to get a Voodoo2 SLI setup? Would this be preferable than ditching my Geforce2 in favor of a Voodoo 5500 AGP card? My games on Win98 are Rogue Squadron 3D, Quake2, Quake3 and Crimson Skies.

The Voodoo3 PCI can work alongside the Geforce2 but not like a Voodoo2 via loop cable. You can decide via mainboard BIOS which card will be booted-up first AGP or PCI so you can use one card or the other as primary.

The Voodoo2 SLI would be an alternative but the Voodoo5 I'd consider using it in conjunction with a faster CPU to get you better frame rates at higher resolutions especially if FSAA is considered.

Yes, planning on upgrading mobo/cpu soon, so wanted to weigh my options regarding the graphic cards. Prices for 3DFX stuff is bat@#$% crazy, therefore I'm wondering if there would be any benefit at all going with a voodoo alonside the geforce2.

I would say no, unless there are games you want to play that support GLIDE, but not DirectX or OpenGL.
