Anybody have any experience with the Trident Cyber 9525DVD (2.5MB) card? I have a Toshiba Satellite pro 4220 with the said card, and I can't get D3D games to run correctly. No matter what I do, all of the sprites in the D3D-accelerated games (like text, GUIs, 2D background animations etc.) are either showing with a black/green box, or not rendering anything that's beneath them. All of the other stuff (models, textures) are rendered correctly.

Tried using two different official drivers, but both of them are having the same issue. I found some other drivers, but they weren't even recognised by the device manager. Using WIndows 95C and DirectX 7.0a

If you have any hint (or some better drivers), do let me know. 😉

I had the same video chipset on another toshiba laptop and it's useless in 3d, i think it was based on 3dimage but it's very low on ram anyway.

Tried Turok, Croc 1, Sonic R and Shogo: MAD, sadly all of them have that sprite drawing issues. Oh well, all is not lost, at least the software rendering works great, as the machine is equipped with a PIII. 😉
I remember having a Trident card in my old (1997, as I recall correctly) computer, and sure, it was slow in 3D, but otherwise worked pretty fine. I though it will be the same deal with this notebook Trident chip.

Maybe install older versions of Directx next to the newer ones ? Even though it should have a good retrocompatibility, I know a few games that needs an older version of directx to be installed with the newest one they come with. So if it works for games, I guess it can also work for some obscure graphic cards

It just occurred to me that I played around with a 3DImage 985 years ago and made videos. Here's what I imagine you are seeing in these games.

Jedi Knight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFF-P4vQ0to
Turok https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeTWTjhSQQs
Tomb Raider 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYGlfYuKz60

The chip has problems but it runs some games fairly well.

There's further examination of those Trident chips here:

Yeah, that's pretty much it. 😀 Some games run slower, some faster, but overall the sprite/texture issue is persistent across all of them.
Croc and Turok runs fairly well, Shogo is a bit too choppy for a FPS, while Sonic R slows down to a crawl, 5 FPS at best. Oh well, as I said, there's always the good ol' software rendering. 😉

Too bad I can't remember which model of Trident I had back in the day. It wasn't a speed demon, but most of the games were running without any sprite/texture issues in 640x480 D3D (even newer ones, like Croc 2 or Rayman 2).
