Hi all,

I took out my ti4200 today since I wanted to try the 9800 since it supports higher refresh rates at higher resolutions. But something weird is happening where the driver will just set my monitor to 1920x1200 every time (my monitor even reports this res even though it doesn't support it). I've tried different driver types and I know my monitor works fine at 1080 since my ti4200 can do it, and the 9800 display 1080p fine on a different monitor.

Anyone have a clue what's going on?

Which monitor?
How is it connected?
Which OS?
Which video card driver?
Is the monitor "driver" installed?

I am guessing that 1920x1080 is missing in the driver registry entries for whatever reason.

You can use Powerstrip to add it.

Edit: overlooked the fact that you said it works at 1080p on a different monitor.

I would still try powerstrip. Maybe remove the 1920x1200 entry so it can't try that resolution.

Thanks for the help, I wasn't able to get 1920x1080 working properly, but using that program I switched back to my TI4200 and was able to force 120hz in resolutions like 1024x768 which is more than enough.

Apparently John Carmack coded Quake on one in 1995!

But I think it was very rare. My TI4200 does work fine with it though.

Funnily enough, my GeForce 2MX worked fine on my 1080p60 monitor without any messing about. I was surprised, did anybody even have 1080p monitors in 2000? Like even loaded people?

Most monitors back then were in standard 4:3 proportions, except some very high-end stuff for graphics workstations (which usually used specific hardware).
