Voodoo2 SLI never failed me in DOS. Some games crash in glide mode when you have EMM386 loaded. Try disabling it and try again.
For drivers, you can download a package and unzip it. Then put glide2x.ovl and in your SYSTEM directory (or was it DOS directory? I don't remember). Games that don't come with drivers in their root directory will look there. I use this method for my Win 3.11 + voodoo2 installation (as 3.11 doesn't have 3dfx drivers).

Games I remember playing:
Lands of Lore 2
Redguard (needs emm386.exe disabled)
Carmageddon

If you want higher refresh rates in DOS glide, you need to set this:
set sstv2_refresh_640x480=hz (I think you can use 60, 75, 85, 120)

Also, I found out that old 3dfx drivers (before 1999) don't work with cpu's faster than ~500 MHz. The games lock up.

Glide2x.ovl must be in a %path% included directory.
And if the game includes glide2x.ovl (Archimedean Dynasty, Extreme Assault, Tie Break Tennis) - the best way is to delete it. They are too old and pre-Voodoo2.
