I've built a new P III retro system but m getting a very low score in 3D Mark 2001SE with my Geforce 3 TI 200.

In my P IV system with same GPU I get around 6000 3D marks. In this system I only get 1300 3D marks so seems something is wrong.

- Intel Pentium III EB 1 Ghz (Coppermine)
- MSI 6309 Rev 1.0 (VIA Apollo Pro 133A)
- 256 MB SDRAM 133 Mhz
- Geforce 3 TI 200 64 MB
- OS: Win 98SE
- DX 9.0C installed
- VIA 4-in-1 4.35 installed
- Forceware 81.xx installed (same version as on other system)

Following I tried without success:
- change VIA 4-in-1 to version 4.17
- change Nvidia drivers to Detonator 41.xx
- change AGP Aperture settings
- install Rivatuner to enable AGP4x (default disabled)

What could it be ?

whats the expected result for this kind of hardware even, how much is "missing" ?
what settings are You on? the ti200 was the low power version;
sse2 in p4 i would expect to make quite a difference, additionally the ram is probably a lot faster there;

Hi,

Everything is at stock/default settings. It's a clean Win98SE install. Identical to other system, only drivers are different because this is a VIA chipset and other one is Intel.

If I compare similar systems I should be getting at least 4500 3D marks.
DDR RAM and SSE2 makes a difference but not 3000 points.. 3D Mark score is mostly about the GPU.
I tested the card once more in other system and I had 5000 points.

So something is wrong but I can't figure out what..

yeah, score is way to low. You should be getting 5000-5500 points. Try reinstalling windows (i take it you are running 98) and then doing a clean install of 4.43 and forceware 43.xx

Hi,

thanks for all the advice, so far no luck though.

But I swapped the GPU with a Geforce TI 4200 and got following score now:

5541

This is about the same with the Geforce 3 TI 200 in my Pentium IV 1.6 Ghz (256 mb RDRAM). So there still seems to be a huge bottleneck, which I think is the motherboard MS6309 😢

Just to let you know problem seems solved.

After reinstall Win98SE I have 4500 3D 2001SE Marks with the PIII 1Ghz / Geforce 3 TI 200 so all OK now.

This seems like a good CPU/GPU combo so I keep it like that.

Thanks again for the help!

Glad to hear You fixed it.

It might be a good idea for future viewers to this post if You delete all the irrelevant information above to shrink it a bit. All below the cpu cache information would be good.
