Sounds really good with the new narration! You really did a fantastic job F2bnp!

And brilliant work as always vlask. I'm definitely subbing to this!

Just an FYI, gouraud is pronounced like "gorrow", with emphasis on the second syllable. Here's a spoken example.

While on the topic of pronunciation, I've always pronounced Matrox "May-trocks", not "May-tricks". I don't know what the official way is.

The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.

Same here, which is why I didn't say anything about it. For all I know I could be wrong on that one.

It's a Quebec company so maybe it''s May-tro.......

You should really sort out that sound issue, I don't think just the specific video card is at fault here and may affect with others. I can see a Geforce giving the same trouble

Same setup, Voodoo 1, Riva 128, S3 ViRGE - no problems with sound. Same errors had Alliance AT3D. Tried to change sound card for Soundblaster 128 - same results. Don't know reason for this. Did 2 years ago benchmark of these 1st gen cards, but without sound. So don't know how many others will have same issues.

Try this with mystique on GLQuake with the techland driver. Paste this as opengl32.ini in the quake folder

[Techland OpenGL]
; alpha treshold for texture conversion for colorkeying on Mystique
nAlphaTreshold=80
; dither texture, may improve visual quality
bDitherTexture=0
; use single precision math, pretty important to set it correctly on voodoo
; should speed up things a little anyway
bSinglePrecisionMath=0
; emulate permedia2 in GL_RENDERER for s3 virge driver
; so quake will use mono lightmaps
bEmuPermedia=1
; for virge, force square textures
; textures are resized inside opengl
; default is 1
; you may try to set it to 0 if you have Virge DX or GX2
bForceSquare=0
; for virge, force squaring to smaller dimension
; saves memory but quality is worse
; default is 0
bSquareDown=0
;use s3 virge 24bpp mode for rendering
;works only in fullscreen mode
bVirge24BPP=0

So I've been wrong saying Mat-rocks all this time??? This is like the Hauppauge thing all over again.

I personally know several people who used to work for Matrox and I can tell you that all of them pronounce it as "Mat-rocks" .

Tried, no effect. Still without textures....

Ha my first experience with 3D acceleration was with my family's Compaq and its integrated Trident Blade 3D. Actually didn't do too badly in Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, which was pretty much the only 3D game on PC I played back then.

Hmm why don't you see reflections with the PCX2 in Unreal?
In my capture of Unreal with the PCX2 you ca see it at the beginning as well as at e.g. 5:58

I have a laptop that has that trident blade xp and it goes through 3dmark01 and I get similar results as I would get using voodoo3, so I wouldn't really call it a bad chip. Also it seems very compatible with dos. I have gotten no visual glitches in any dos game I have tried.
I am sure it was probably slow considering when it was launched, but slow doesn't mean necessarily same as bad from my perspective.
