I've got a spare AVGA1 video card (either from '91 or '92, might be wrong) which I'll probably be using in my DOS build. Have any of you guys used an AVGA1 before? If so, how good is it for DOS gaming?

Also, anyone know where to find drivers for it?

I have an AVGA2 ISA VGA with 512KB, works well for a 286, 386 or an early ISA only 486. Don't know how much difference there is with the AVGA1 though.

For DOS gaming in standard VGA mode you won't need any drivers.

I believe AVGA1 is the first version of Cirrus Logic CL-GD 54xx series chipset. try using CL drivers.

Yep Cirrus buyed Acumos company and just renamed AVGA1 and AVGA2 into GD5401 and GD5402. So these drivers could work.

Not only mine graphics cards collection at http://www.vgamuseum.info

AcuMOS released two video chips before being buyed by Cirrus. The AVGA1 is a low cost VGA solution that only supports 256KB of video memory . It supports all VGA standard video modes plus 800x600@16 colors and 132 columns in text mode. AVGA2 is a low cost SVGA solution that supports 512KB of video memory. It supports all AVGA1 video modes plus 640x480@256 colors, 800x600@256 colors and 1024x768@16 colors.
For the time (early 90s) they were very good performers (specially AVGA2 with 512KB which claims 2x performance improvement over the 256KB ones) and very good value for the money.
