So everything AGP has problems but PCI works

Well I do have (spent the evening going through my old crap) a Radeon 9550, a Radeon 9600 and a 9600XT that are AGP and work perfectly but for the following (am I being difficult ?) :
a) all three are fanless, so I would need to strap yet another fan in there somehow
b) the 9600XT is from a MAC G5 and only has working VGA out after being flashed (no DVI)
c) the 9550 and 9600 are a little slow even on a P3, I would like to be CPU limited or nearly so
And the 6600GT is AGP and does not artifact in either DOS or Windows (2D or 3D). It only freezes to black or goes slow (depending on driver version) when scrolling text in 2D .

Of the three, the 9600, which is a Sapphire 9600 Atlantis actually does 1600x1200 in DOS (the 9550 does 1280x1024).

Are your chipset up to date? Seems more an AGP issue now than a card issue.

I used this https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/349 … -?product=81554 . It is for an Intel board with an 815 chipset . It seems to enumerate everything properly . Intel's downloads section being slightly confusing, it is the best I could find . Should I be using something else ?

I now have an Asus V8420 (not the Deluxe) Geforce 4 TI 4200 on order . Hopefully , that will work and bring me closure or it might edge me on further towards insanity .

The artifacting I complain about in the previous posts was due to a Monoprice HDMI repeater-splitter I forgot I had inline between the monitor video card . Strangely it worked fine with ATI integrated (except maybe Radeon 9700, which I have not retried yet) and Geforce 6 integrated TMDS chips only .

The FX5900 (now needs a resistor resoldered, but that is another story) and first Quadro FX1100 work fine. The Asus V8420 (not the Deluxe) Geforce 4 TI 4200 works fine too .
