Hi,

Was there a S3 Virge DX driver needed for DOS support? I ask because I got ahold of the Terminal Velocity S3D edition and when I try to launch it in DOS (Restarted to MS DOS mode in WIN 95) I get "No S3 chip found".

I found a S3D pack where i placed the S3D DLL file in my WINDOWS/SYSTEM directory (but it was already there and I didnt overwrite...probably from installing the VIRGE windows 95 driver?) and then put the S3DRUN file in WINDOWS/COMMAND/ so I could get to it easy. When I run S3DRUN TV as the instructions say I get the aforementioned error.

My only thought is that there is a DOS driver that I should load in CONFIG.SYS / AUTOEXEC.BAT to get it working?

I will also note I have a Diamond Monster 3D with the Virge DX running pass through.

Thanks!

Yes. Virge dx has a patch. That enables to play dos virge games. S3drun. But the card has to be a primary card.

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.
PS. If I upload RAR, it is a 16-bit DOS RAR Version 2.50.

So the issue would be fixed if I were to remove the Diamond Monster? That would make the S3 the "primary" graphics card then?

Thanks,

A Voodoo1 is never the primary graphics card in DOS, it may just be the primary 3d accelerator in Windows.
Your description sounds like you didn't read the instructions correctly, or your instructions are plain wrong.
The main point is that you have to run s3dsrvr.exe (loads as a TSR) before you run S3DRUN TV.
I didn't have any problems running TV in DOS this way.
I don't even remember if S3DTKWRl.DLL was needed in DOS.

Copy the S3DTKWR.DLL to \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory

3th,
At DOS prompt, instead of type the game batch file, you need to run
the TSR file S3DSRVR.EXE then, run s3drun before the game batch file
(i.e. for terminal velocity, you used to type TV <CR>; now you type
S3DRUN TV <cr>).

That S3D DOS utility never worked for me either. Exchanging the 375 to a 325 did, however. No idea what was the culprit.
