Hiya!

For quite some time I have a Paradise WD90C33-ZZ VLB vga in my collection that I am using when testing VLB systems . It works fine but there are several jumpers on board that I have no idea what they do - maybe they are important and maybe the card can be faster or something 🤣

I have dumped the BIOS in hopes the header reveals some model number but there is nothing of value there...

I tried searching TH99 and the only thing I am sure is the 4 switches in the back - they control refresh/interlace on high resolutions - but what about the JP1~JP6 settings? Other WD90C33 cards mention that they control 386 or 486 mode, vlb timing, isa/vlb mode (maybe) something called "Date or code status VLB" 😕
I am confused... the other 90C33 cards I found are these :

http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/graphics-cards/C- … -WG-6000VL.html
http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/graphics-cards/U- … CCELERA-96.html

I am also pretty sure the 2 DRAM chips on the 2nd bank are not used, they are 256kbytes combined and you need to fill all the slots to get a 2MB card, they were installed by the previous owner and I did not bother removing them 🤣

Any help/info would be appreciated as I've come to like the WDC cards 😊
Thanks!

Greetings, fellow WD90C33'er! 😁

I think I have the manual for this card... I will check and post it later here.

Though yes, this is a good card... I have the 'Diamond Flower' shown in the picture below which has a UMC RAMDAC. Not touched the jumpers yet... but as it is, it seemed to test level with the Tseng W32/i in most cases, and was even better on others such as Doom.

I would have thought one or two of the jumpers would be to switch between 1Mb or 2MB? Otherwise, I'd say they would be similar to this card: -

Digging deeper, I found that I have the closest ISA equivalent: -

yeah that't one of the VLB info I found as well - still the jumpers cannot be identified completely 🤣
the ISA card is really good as well - try it and you'll see it's one of the fastest one for ISA and without weird compatibility issues... the only "downside" could be the DAC since it's most likely an 8bit one

I looked at the PDF you shared but it's only a few pages of pictures, not the user manual. :/

I have the same card as the one pictured here (from Ebay) and am interested in adding RAM to it. I'm hoping the manual can tell me more specifically what it needs other than being (8) 10-pint 44256 (4256X4). DRAM or VRAM? What speed?

Thanks for any help or information!

You need eight 256Kx4 45ns FPM DRAM chips (DIP-20).

Here are the jumpers for that card. https://th99.dosreloaded.de/v/P-R/54457.htm

None of them seem to indicate they involve setting the memory size other than indicating where you add the ram. Perhaps is it like most video cards and the BIOS detects the ram size on boot. Did you ever buy the chips and try it?
