Hi guys,

Recently, I find my ATI 7500 video card not work well under WIN3.11(DOS 7.1) with two ISA sound cards, SB AWE64 and ALS007.
When I enter into Win3.11, the start-up sound will hang, and I've tried to disable the start-up sound, but it is no use. When I play back some WAV /MID files, the sound will still hang, and so I have to reset my PC. In the BIOS, the PnP/DMA has been already set to legacy ISA.

But when I change 7500 to MX440 or FX5500, it works well. It is so strange! Does anyone know the detail reason?

I recall seeing an article that says there is a BIOS ROM on the nvidia cards whose address starts from C000:0000, but on ATI card I have no mind.

Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with this one. When I got an ATI Radeon 7500 AGP card, I was running Windows XP, not Windows 3.11. I left THAT version of Windows behind in the 80486 days with DOS 6.22 in 1994.

Hello, is that the card ?

The issue sounds like an IRQ conflict (pun intended).
Apparently, the ATI 7500 reserves an IRQ for its own.
The BIOS settings for PnP/Legacy have no effect for PCI (or AGP) cards.

Similar here. I was running 3.11 mainly on pre-Pentium II systems. But still, 3.1x is more robust like, say, Win95.
At least in Standard Mode, some people have claimed to have even managed to run it on the latest i7 machines. ^^
