Hello all,

I think that i have a problem with resolution in many MS-DOS games. My crt monitor diplays @720x400 the games under 640x480 resolution.

Duke Nukem 3D :

Screamer 2 3DFX :

Doom 2 :

What is the problem?

Pentium MMX 200MHZ
Sound Blaster Pro 2.0
Cirrus Logic CL-GD5446
3DFX Voodoo 1
CRT moniotor (VGA cable).

Thanks!

Doom 2 is 320x200, while the rest of the games you are apparently running at 640x480. The monitor apparently displays 320x200 as 720x400, which you can't really do much about AFAIK. From the photo you posted though it does look fine, about as sharp and clean as I would expect 😀.

Ok! 720x400 was a bit strange to me (why not 640x400?). And yes the games run fine and seem to have a correct aspect ratio. Thanks!

That's because 320x200 graphics mode looks identical to the monitor as text mode which is 720x400 and nearly all TFT monitors sample that as 720x400 to display pixel perfect text mode.
Some monitors have capability to change that to be sampled as 640x400 but not many.

With a CRT, it's irrelevant as the signal is not sampled but shown as it is.
