I'm trying to get Metal support on this machine, which has a VIA/S3 ProSavage8 chip with 32MB shared memory. I think this is a derivative of the Savage2000. Has anyone had any luck getting this to work?

I've installed the 2.0.3.0 Metal driver from here and the Diamond Stealth Savage2000 patch for Unreal Tournament since I figured that had the best chance of working. Metal shows up as a supported device in the video mode selection screen, but when I run the game it defaults to software. The 'Video Driver' field in the ingame menu just says 'VideoDriverClassName'.

UnrealGold does the same thing, but its older Metal.dll isn't compatible with the Savage2000 anyway AFAIK.

The machine is running Win98SE + DX9c + KernalEX.

the only supported cards are the Savage3D, the Savage4, the Savage2000 and the Savage IX, all other derived cards (prosavage, supersavage, unichrome, etc.) aren't supported because they went to market later than the support for Metal ended.
Metal only works on 9x OS
it probably can be made to work, but is just an idea, i know almost nothing about Metal or other API's.
what i do know, is that most derived cards take the Savage4 as a base, and not the more capable Savage2000.
