So my 9800 Pro seems to be running at 324/400 instead of 380/630 anyone seen this, did I get a bad 9800 Pro, I can't imagine anyone counterfitting these cards so late in the game.

Also when I set it to 9800 Pro stock clocks I throw memory erros left and right

the ram chips.

K4D263238G-VC36

according to the data sheet this ram is max rated for 275, so instead of a good card I got a fake card

I haven't seen fakes of the 9800 Pro before, but I remember seeing knockoff 6800GT cards, so I guess it's not surprising.

Somebody out there is apparently finding stashes of old GPUs and building cards around them. I wouldn't mind as much if they actually conformed to nVidia's original specs for the corresponding cards, but unfortunately they tend to pull shenanigans like this using cheaper RAM.

In the case of the 6800GT cards, I remember they had DDR2 instead of the expected GDDR3.

Well I reached out to the seller, his pictures show cards with 2.8ns ram, and I asked him to swap me cards to one with the right ram, ill await his reponse.

Reflashed Radeon 9800SE.

ASUS did 6800GT with 128mb DDR officially. GeForce 6800GT DDR2 were actually cheaper.

I'm tempted to place my MX 420 back in here just because its at least a legit card and honestly a 9800 with 400mhz ram is just garbage anyway, its slow

325/400 sounds like its a super crippled version of 9800 not 9800PRO.

I agree, I have informed the seller they sent me a counter fit 9800 Pro and asked them to send me one with 2.8ns ram. If they don't I'm going to take this 9800 Pro straight to the local post office to let them know someone committed mail fraud by shipping counter fit items via USPS.

honestly its a shame I don't have a BGA rework station, my Quadro FX3000 is dead because i cracked a memory IC, but if i had one and a mask I could just transplant it's 2.2NS Ram onto the 9800, and swap the bios to a 9800 Pro with hynix instead of samsung ram

Don't be so sure, the 9800 you got may actually be running on a 9700 PCB, or may not have all necessary components for a 9800PRO.

My 9800 for example is a similar recent build (but at true 9800 specs) however it was built using 9700 PCBs anre R360 GPUs.

Mine has a real R350, and a 4pin molex, not a floppy connector, but it is missing all the 9800 Pro heatsinks except the gpu one

That makes no sense, please post a photo of the card.

That's clearly some third party rip-off of Radeon 9600/9800 PCBs.

it has other issues, if i use my KVM to switch to a diffrent computer then switch back I get no video, I have to reboot, and running anything in 3d causes it to lock up. Really frustrated, I guess back to the terrible MX420 for now.

That card is not built on a Radeon 9800 PCB, not even a 9700 PCB. It is actually the worst Frankenstein PCB I've ever seen.

Can you please lift the cooler and check the GPU for me?

It is market R350 but I'm not so sure that it actually is an R350 😀
