Hi to all, i've found a relatively cheap PCI video card for my MMX system
the thing is that i don't know if there is any incompatibility that i need to be aware
the videocard is a Zotac GeForce FX 5200 with 128 MB of DDR memory (128-bit) and is PCI
the system is:
Pentium MMX 200 @ 225MHz (75x3)
Chipset Utron (PCChips board)
64MB EDO memory
Windows 95C (without Desktop upgrade installed)

i want to know if there is any problem like driver compatibility, or the system needs more memory or things like that.

the reason i'm choosing this card is that at the time i can't find anything cheaper where i live. buying in Ebay, craiglist, etc. is not an option (no credit card).
also, the games that i'm going to be playing are mostly really older games (early d3d titles up to DX 6), or run newer games only as an experiment(DX6 up to 9)

so, what does you think? thanks

they were. PNY and a shitton of other companies made PCI FX5200's.

I think the one issue you're probably going to run into might be with the driver. IIRC I had an issue trying to use my FX5500 with an Athlon Thunderbird machine because it lacked SSE. The driver refused to install because of it. I ended up downgrading to my Geforce 2MX because that driver didn't require it.

That's bad, i think the oldest driver is 45.23, but i don't have any idea about SSE requirement, i will download the driver and see something in the readme

I think there is requirement of SSE at some point (not sure whether it is the driver itself or rather directX version recent enough to work with the driver). But that is long after FX 5200 and FW45.23. I could run even GF 6800 without problems on Athlon TBird.

I know that at least 81.98 and the latter 93.71 work on non sse processors, because they worked on a duron spitfire without sse, and a mx4000

Don't know how/why FX series might require SSE when even 7000 series doesn't.
